Gran Tarajal – the small town atmosphere of Fuerteventura.
I do not know exactly know why I was immediately thinking about Barcealona on my first visit in Gran Tarajal. But so it was.
Gran Tarajal is definitely different from all the cities on Fuerteventura. Creative. Cooler and obviously also equipped with a plan when it comes to creating s beautiful city. Not always a given on my favorite island that stands out by al lot of architectural monstrosities.
This small town is located on the east coast of Fuerteventura, about halfway between Puerto Rosario and Morro Jabel. What I particularly like – the place is not developed for tourism and you will not find so much tourists dressed only in shorts and showing their naked, sweaty and sunburnt bodies.

If you’re entering Gran Tarajal, you find to your left, a little park with palm trees and a small seahorse fountain. Take your time to go in and get out. If you’re going straight ahead, you come automatically to the beautiful beach promenade with many bars, cafes and restaurants. Whether pizza or fresh fish, small snack or delicious dinner – here you will have all at a reasonable price-performance ratio.
In Gran Tarajal you can find still genuine Canarian small-town atmosphere and a beautiful sandy beach in a large bay. The city is full of life with al lot of families with young children. Directly on the beach there is a playground and walk a few meters towards the harbor there is another playground.

The center offers many small shops among which is also a popular Argentine and German butcher. At the port of Gran Tarajal you can eat and buy delicious fresh fish.

And if you’re already here, you can combine your trip with a stop in Las Playitas. A small but beautiful fishing village in the neighborhood.
